The Page Pounding!

I cannot imagine a more complete game! That was as good of football as I have ever seen.

Below is a photo and article from the News and Record.

JAMESTOWN - The game was over by halftime, but the football massacre lasted all evening.

Ragsdale tried hard to stop it, but in a mismatch during which they couldn't help but score and score often, the Tigers scored seven straight touchdowns and humiliated Page 42-21 in matchup of unbeatens.

Talk about false advertising: This was a game billed as must-see football between Guilford County's top two teams. But by halftime it was clear that only the Tigers (4-0) would be holding up their end of the hype.

"We played a great game, a super game and not just on offense," Ragsdale coach Tommy Norwood said. "People might remember all those touchdowns, but they shouldn't forget our defense shut them down for most of the game."

The stars were everywhere for Ragsdale, which scored in every possible manner at Kenneth Miller Stadium, but the brightest was quarterback Luke Heavner.

A few more games like Friday's and Heavner, a junior, might make Ragsdale fans forget about older brother Matt Heavner, the Tigers' standout quarterback from two seasons ago. Matt Heavner is a sophomore at Davidson where he is the Wilcats' backup quarterback.

The latest Heavner to wear a Ragsdale uniform completed 12 of 16 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns against a Page defense that was thoroughly frustrated and confused by the junior's ability to scramble and throw on the run.

What little drama this game contained was packed into the first quarter. After Ragsdale defensice back Darrius McQueen recovered a fumble at midfield, the Tigers needed just six plays to take a 7-0 lead. D'onovan Smith capped the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run.

Page (3-1) answered immediately with a touchdown of its own. On their ensuing drive, the Pirates drove 80 yards in nine plays with quarterback James Summers rolling to his right and tossing a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Collie.

That tied the game at 7 and it looked like it would be a game.

It wasn't.

Behind Heavner, the Tigers scored the game's next 35 points - an onslaught that included five touchdowns during a 10-minute stretch that started in the second quarter and didn't end until midway through the third.

Leading 21-7 at the half, Ragsdale's Chris Armwood took the second-half kickoff and raced 99 yards up the middle for a touchdown and the rout was on.

After Page failed to get a first down and was forced to punt, the Tigers struck again. This time, fullback D'Onovan Smith ran 12 yards up the middle for the score.

And when wide receiver Luke Sonricker slipped behind Page's secondary for a 43-yard touchdown pass from Heavner, giving the Tigers a 42-7 lead, it was left to Norwood to sum up the night.
"We couldn't play a better game of football," said Norwood. "Every part of our game was on tonight."

Page scored a pair of touchdowns late.

Drew Rogers scored on a 19-yard pass from quarterback James Summers and then Summers raced 60 yards for a score of his own, but by then Ragsdale had made its point to both the Pirates and the rest of the county.

"To play the schedule we've played so far and come out unscratched shows just how good this team is and what we can do," said Norwood. "I'm proud of them, really proud."
